1901-S Barber Quarter PCGS MS67+ CAC There are coins that you have wanted since you were a young collector, key date coins…the last hole in the book. This is one of my all time favorites; the 1901-S Barber Quarter. At around ten years of age I would ride my bicycle to the local coin store, Edgewood Coin Shop, and peruse all the Barber Quarters in their little junk box. I think they were $2 at the time. I really believed that I would find a 1901-S! Of course that would never happen, but it led the way to my love of 1901-S Barber Quarters. I am honored and pleased to offer one of the finest known 1901-S Barber Quarters, a PCGS MS67+ approved by CAC. My instant knee jerk reaction after the coin was first placed in my hand was WOW, that is a heck of coin! Even ignoring the S mintmark, it really stands out. The luster is crazy intensely it swirls under the light. The devices are very frosty for any Barber Coinage. Sparkles could be the appropriate term? I have handled dozens of high end Mint State Barber Quarters and this one stands out on its own in every way. No one did this coin any favors because its an 01-S. The degree of toning is somewhat light medium to light. The colors are softly intense, depending on the angle you hold the coin. Golden, purple, burgundy, rose, blue, green, and a little yellow. Most colors on the spectrum are represented. The colors perfectly frame the coin’s intense luster. The PCGS population is 2 in MS67+, and one finer, in MS68+, all three are CAC approved. This coin is tied for the second finest known. The MS68+ example is owned by Dell Loy Hansen and is off the market indefinitely. The other 67+ is in one of the finest collections of Mint State Barber Quarters and is owned by an extremely passionate collector and is in very strong hands. This is all about opportunity. It is a rare opportunity to own one the most famous classic key date coins in all of numismatics. This 1901-S Quarter is either for a Barber specialist or someone who wishes to own the greatest coins for the long term. Again, the opportunity is the key here. Witter Coin is pleased to offer this coin to our clientele for $345,000.
